Job Description

Outpost QA is a startup in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, dedicated to software quality assurance. Our goal is to help companies improve their digital products through manual and automated testing strategies, ensuring their applications’ functionality, stability, and performance. We work with international teams, collaborating on innovative projects where quality is a priority.

As a Senior Automation SDET (AI) at Outpost QA, you’ll be responsible for theautomation and quality of entire product areas, with AI at the core of how you work, not just as an additional tool. You’ll design automation frameworks that combine traditional tools with AI-powered agents and libraries, define the testing strategy for complex systems, and continually determine which tasks AI can reliably handle and which require human judgment. This role also involves mentoring the team on AI-assisted testing practices and helping to define what “AI-native” quality engineering looks like at Outpost QA.

Responsibilities

  • Architecting and maintaining test automation frameworks designed to work alongside AI-driven tools and agents (e.g., Playwright/TypeScript combined with LLM-powered automation libraries).

  • Leveraging AI tools to generate and optimize test scripts, rather than writing every test manually from scratch.

  • Reviewing and validating AI-generated test code, identifying flaky tests, hallucinated steps, or false coverage produced by automation agents.

  • Designing resilient, self-healing automations that tolerate minor UI changes through AI-assisted element location instead of rigid selectors.

  • Applying prompt engineering to testing: translating technical specifications and user stories into instructions that AI agents can execute to generate or run tests.

  • Defining and monitoring quality metrics specific to AI-assisted automation, such as flakiness, maintainability, and the accuracy of AI-generated tests versus hand-written ones.

  • Collaborating with the development team to expose the hooks and test points AI agents need to interact reliably with the product.

  • Continuously evaluating new AI tools and frameworks for test automation as the space evolves.

  • Mentoring junior engineers and other SDETs on the use of AI tools for testing.

  • Producing written test reports with clear visibility into quality metrics.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential requirements

  • Intermediate/advanced English (B2 or higher) for communication with international teams.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with TypeScript.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Playwright.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining test automation with AI-driven tools or agents (e.g., LLM-powered automation libraries, AI coding assistants) not just familiarity with the concept.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and validate AI-generated test code for correctness, reliability, and coverage.
  • Experience adapting test strategy to incorporate AI-assisted workflows into an existing automation suite.
  • Ability to learn and adopt new AI tools and frameworks quickly as the space evolves.
  • Experience working on a team that uses Kanban or Scrum, with a desire to ship multiple times a day.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and accurately.
  • Strong analytical skills with accuracy and attention to detail.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with high-level API models or libraries that interpret natural-language prompts to locate, interact with, and extract data from web elements.
  • Familiarity with functional programming patterns in TypeScript for structuring asynchronous automation scripts.
  • Experience with prompt engineering for code or test generation.
  • Experience mentoring others on AI-assisted development or testing practices.
